The President Welcomes Loved Ones of Attacked Military Members to the Presidential Residence

Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.

He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Details on the Devastating Event

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Gatherings across the state have taken place in their memory.

White House Invitation

The president stated he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told reporters. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Public Response

Mourners assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.

Both she and Wolfe had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to aid policing efforts in Washington DC.

Paying Tribute to the Soldier

“Sarah was the individual that instructors wished for. She behaved with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her former high school, told the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to help others.”

Service plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Legal Measures and Policy Changes

Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while armed.

The event led the government to pause asylum applications and halt issuing entry permits to owners of travel documents.

Status of Andrew Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.

He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Morrisey stated on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told the program that she also intended to speak to Wolfe’s family.

Memory of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had bravery,” the governor told the gathering at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
