Israelis have come together throughout the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-conducted attack on 7 October 2023, as talks continued in Egypt over an end to the war in Gaza.

The assault led to more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most lethal day for Jewish people since the Second World War.

Israel answered by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as trustworthy by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The bloodthirsty enemies have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," the leader stated on that day.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas administration and the guarantee that Gaza will not pose a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities rescheduled formal remembrance events until mid-October - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still were held around the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas attack was held in the coastal city. Put together by the families themselves, it was televised across Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a minute's silence was respected around the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, both sides' representatives gathered in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of mediated discussions to discuss the conditions of the agreement.

A high-ranking delegate knowledgeable about the discussions revealed that an late session of indirect talks started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source stated the earlier meeting concluded without concrete outcomes, because of differences over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not recommence combat after the initial stage of the arrangement.

He noted that the talks are "tough and have not yet achieve any real breakthrough," but noted that mediators are striving to close the gaps between the both parties.

Critical Points in Talks

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the prisoners still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Plans for relief supplies deliveries
  • Post-war management of the territory

Civilian Reaction

In the city's Hostages Square previously, 29-year-old a woman - whose brother survived the incident on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were murdered and many more were captured by Hamas gunmen - told: "No place appears as home anymore and until every captive are released not a single person will feel safe."

"When we see everybody home again, we can feel relief anew. Then we can start to heal," she concluded.

Outside the leader's home in Jerusalem, people congregated to show their backing for the families of the hostages. Israel states forty-eight continue in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be living.

Protester one woman explained: "We must do any agreement necessary for the hostages to be released. But we really want promises that we will be secure."

Surveys now regularly indicate that about 70% of Israelis prefer the hostilities to finish in as payment for the release of the abducted.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the area of the music event, those paying respects assembled to pay their respects.

From there, the boom of aerial bombardments and artillery could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the heavy Israeli attacks continued.

In Gaza City, attacks were documented in the dawn of Tuesday in the western neighborhood, area and locality areas and in the eastern area of the community, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"When the dusk comes, the anxiety appears with it," relocated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was killed by an Israeli aerial attack last year, explained.

"My family are fearful of the air strikes. All the night we are sleeping together, embracing, especially my youngest child who puts his head on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we look at the updates to see the situation. And I'm worried that this truce will not be completed and that the conflict will resume to us."

Medical Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area announced it had accepted the corpses of half dozen people by the midday, including several killed in an Israeli strike in the southern area.

A different healthcare center in the south region of that area said another two dead people had been brought there. One of them was died by Israeli troops while attempting to get aid to the south, medics said.
