The star has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize cash to the MVT, which operates to save the Britain's small concert spaces.

He was presented with the cheque on 16 October as his latest record his work was declared the outstanding release of the past year.

The musician has opted to donate the funds to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the vital role grassroots venues played in his early career.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing my current career if it hadn't been for all the shows I performed around the area, and beyond, when I was just getting going," said Sam Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to support the industry, by including a modest fee to their ticket prices, which goes to help local stages.

Fender also took part, raising over £100k on his live tour to help numerous grassroots venues across Britain.

The money helped venues that were confronting possible closure due to issues caused by floods, blazes and bereavements, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Other venues received funding support in upgrading infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted artists and audiences.

"The concept that funds from concerts in large arenas helps the smaller venues, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has said.

Previously, Ezra Collective donated their winnings to the community center that supported their group, alongside other independent music bodies.

Additionally the 1994 recipients the group contributed their winnings to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was identified with the disease.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," remarked artist the singer. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our winning touched another person's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust announced it had protected two local spots in that region, by placing them under local control.

One venue in the city and the second in the city were bought under the community ownership initiative, which is backed by a national body and enthusiasts who purchase "stakes" in the venues.
