McKenna's Position on Celtic

The Ipswich boss referred to Celtic as "an enormous soccer institution" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last season as they were relegated back to the Championship and they currently sit twelfth place in the Championship.

"I have not had such discussions," the English capital native ex- Irish youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my focus is currently.

"I have a special job here at a special team. And we're at a crucial stage of the season. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my awareness."

Background and Contractual Aspects

It has been suggested that McKenna would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about those. "It's unlikely all people has to publicly and announce what they were, but of course it's a massive football club."

McKenna signed a fresh four-year contract in last year and was asked about his alleged £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are things," he responded. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!

"I approach this job like I will remain Town's coach forever. I know that's not always going to be the case, but I'll always do my best as while I am here."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker represented the Hoops on loan from Newcastle United in 2005, but the ex- Wales forward is minded to complete the current World Cup qualification, a position that would effectively rule out the mid-forties from assuming the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are presently third in their qualifying group behind leaders the Red Devils and second-placed Macedonia.

Victories over Liechtenstein and their rivals in November would secure their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are virtually assured of reaching that stage, due to a successful European competition campaign, even if they fail to end up Group J second place.

Given his present stance, Bellamy, whose contract concludes after the European Championship, would be unavailable until after the qualifying matches at the minimum.
