'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith renews battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the thrilling final moments of his team's remarkable turnaround triumph against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles amid the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range strike from distance, and Cameron Burgess promptly slammed home the deflection before sprinting toward the home end to celebrate, with fans swarming the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The victory completed an unbelievable turnaround given Swansea had found themselves down 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. During the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The victory booked a fourth-round match at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had arguably the best view when Orient took the lead in stunning style, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for taking the effort on from that range," stated Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right flank after the team changed shape. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who praised the way his former team attacked the game.

City's Quality

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the basics and simple things, they can just do it over and over again," Galbraith says. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they know how to control and slow down a game. You can feel you're holding your own and then abruptly they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It requires a tough attitude and concentration just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a fans' favourite across multiple campaigns at his former club and has quickly done the same in Wales. At the London club he linked up again with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in first-team action on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a loan at League Two Salford, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was likely a slightly green going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is very different. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without real physicality. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing men's games you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that growth for club and country, excelling for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has featured in the last several matches, including home and away games against the German national team. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he handles the football and his knack for a killer pass.

Starting Out

This marks an incredible journey for the player from the neighborhood in his hometown, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his father, his father, also a central player, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's only game for United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they played on an synthetic surface and the stadium roof was closed owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he comments, chuckling. "The week before, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to leave United, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "This turned out quite easy, because I got to the stage where I knew I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm hugely grateful for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I felt I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a minibus driven by club employees, the drivers, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include a teammate, Ronald, Malick Yalcouyé – Melker Widell used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to interact with the lads but I'm hoping to be the next one to drive independently and driving. His teammate is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Public Engagement

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on London's Central line after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
