Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.

Community Responses: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Community Feedback

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
